Website: Sanborn County Parks
Sanborn County Park over 3,688 acres is nestled in the Santa Cruz Mountains between Saratoga and Skyline Boulevard.
This mountain park of redwoods and tan bark oak, offers hiking, camping, RV camping and picnicking opportunities year round.
It is located on Sanborn Road. From Saratoga , proceed two miles west on Highway 9 to Sanborn Road. Turn left onto Sanborn Road , traveling one mile to the park entrance. Its is about 15 minutes from De Anza and Highway 85 intersection.
Sanborn Trail up then San Andrea’s trail down: 4.1 miles, total elevation gain: 1300 feet in 2.6 miles. Then 1.5 mile back down again.
From the parking lot go south on Sanborn Trail, you will pass the campsites and you will elevate 1300 feet over the next 2.6 miles. Then take the San Andreas trail back to headquarters. It is mostly shaded, under redwoods and very green. The trail does get narrow and a little steep on the side, nothing deadly but be careful with kids and older dogs or dogs that pull intensely.
This hike takes me 2.5 hours in the summer with half an hour break. With kids, or slower people/a group of people add an hour more, to be on the save side.
Dogs need to be on a 6 foot (not longer) leash at all times. Poop needs to be removed always, bring your own bags. No retractable leashes allowed anymore !
From high way 85 take de anza / saratoga exit south, towards Sarratoga. Turn right on Big Basin way, then left on Sanborn Road
The park will be on your right hand side.
Santa Clara County Parks do charge 6 dollars per car. Or you can get a year pass for 80m dollars/ You can pay or buy the pass at the park entrance using automated machine if the ranger is not in her stall.
The Park lends itself well for pick nicks since it has a nice big field, benches, a pond and terrific redwoods scenery. Also many weddings are performed here in summer.
